Project description

4 metre bitumen seal is breaking up and very potholed in numerous sections. The road is not wide enough for heavy vehicle traffic.

Widen running surface to 10m with a reconstructed 7.2m two coat bitumen seal. In September 2013 we will be carrying out the pruning works of vegetation to enable us to widen that section of road as it is very over grown. Then in October 2013 we will be commencing the gravel laying, wetmixing and sealing hopefully finishing by the end of December 2013.

Total cost of proposed project is $272,572

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
