The project duplicated 35km of the Princes Highway West from Deans Marsh Road, Winchelsea to Baillie Street, Colac and rehabilitated 2km from Baillie Street to Corangamite Street in Colac. The project also upgraded existing bridges, pedestrian and bicycle paths, installed new traffic signals and parking bays, reinstated local access and grade separated the Geelong-Warnambool Rail Line near Warncoort.
The project increased capacity, improved travel time reliability and vehicle safety, and reduced vehicle operating costs and environmental emissions.
The cost of the project was $337.4 million, with a 50:50 funding split between the Australian and Victorian governments. Both governments contributed $168.7 million towards the project.
Construction commenced on 28 April 2015 and was completed on 30 November 2019.
