Project description

Upgrading existing unsealed road to sealed due to increased traffic, mainly due to linking collectors roads between Christmas Hills and St Andrews and escalating routine maintenance costs. As a result of increased traffic, road is rutting and pot holing which in turn results in increased maintenance costs. Sealing of the road will significantly reduce maintenance costs and increase safety.

Spray Seal existing road, adding crushed rock to base as necessary. Approximately 1.6km in length.

Total cost of proposed project is $260,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
