Project description

This project will see the installation of Managed Motorways Intelligent Transport Systems on a 16 kilometre stretch of the Bruce Highway between its junction with the Gateway Motorway and the D'Aguilar Highway at Caboolture.

The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to be installed include:

  • ramp signals;
  • variable message signs;
  • vehicle detectors;
  • dynamic ramp metering;
  • six additional CCTV sites to build on the existing video monitoring network; and
  • an upgrade to the existing ITS communication system. 

In addition to these improvements, the project will also provide minor upgrades to the guardrails, maintenance bays and other safety elements as required.

  • Improved efficiency and productivity of this stretch of the Bruce Highway; 
  • Improved safety; and
  • Reduced congestion.

Funding

The Australian Government provided $16.1 million towards this $32.2 million project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in March 2014 and was completed in November 2018.
