Project description

The project constructed a bridge over Rocky Bottom Creek to improve the flood immunity of the crossing, and realigned bridge approaches as required.

Benefits

The project aimed to improve flood immunity, safety and reliability, increase the efficiency of freight movements, and improve the productivity of freight corridors.

Funding

The Australian Government contributed over $5.9 million towards this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in January 2016, and was completed in September 2016.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
