Project description

The project involved the consruction of a grade separated interchange at the intersection of the Calder Highway and Calder Alternative Highway at Ravenswood and two new freeway carriageways from Bullock Creek to Ravenswood Creek. The project also widened existing bridges and culverts, constructed new service roads and removed various uncontrolled at grade intersections.

Benefits

The project improved the movement and safety of vehicles travelling between Mildura and Melbourne. The need for vehicles to stop and regain speed consumes additional fuel, increases vehicle operating costs travel times, vehicles are now able to travel through the interchange without stopping, and the new carriageways improved sight distances allowing the posted speed limit to increase to 110 km/h.

Funding

The final cost of the project is $86.9 million. The Australian Government is contributing $45.5 million and the Victorian Government $41.4 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced 30 May 2016 and was completed 23 March 2018.
