Project description

The project completed unfinished works on Old Toogoom Road to bring the road to a higher standard.

Benefits

The upgrade will provide benefits to local road users and tourists through efficiency and safety improvements which in turn will provide economic benefits and a boost to the retail and hospitality industries.

Funding

The Australian Government provided $1 million toward the upgrade of Old Toogoom Road.

Timetable

Main construction works commenced in March 2015 and was completed in September 2015.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
