Project description

The Sarina Northern Access upgrade will see the installation of a roundabout at the Sarina Beach Road intersection as well as pavement rehabilitation on the immediate approaches.  The scope also includes:

  • The duplication of the existing Bruce Highway on the approaches and departures to the upgraded intersection with a 4-lane, median separated carriageway within the existing road reserve width; and
  • The relocation of conflicting existing Public Utility Plant (PUP) infrastructure, and minor drainage works (including improvements to surface drainage from the west side of the Bruce Highway).

Benefits

Benefits for the project include improved travel reliability along the Bruce Highway and on the side roads, improved productivity through transport efficiency and significant improvements to manoeuvrability for heavy vehicles turning to and from the highway.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed up to $11.5 million to the project, in partnership with the Queensland Government.

Timetable

Construction commenced in February 2019 and was completed in February 2020.
