Project description
The National Network Fatigue Management and Safety Initiatives are part of the $77 million Northern Territory Roads Package.
The initiatives include intersection upgrades, construction of new rest areas and truck parking bays and various other safety upgrades on the Stuart Highway, Victoria Highway and the Barkly Highway.
Benefits
The projects will improve safety on Northern Territory highways by installing safety features, providing additional rest opportunities for heavy vehicle operators and tourists and by upgrading intersections where safety issues exist.
Funding
The Australian Government is providing up to $24.1 million towards this project, including $16.6 million towards the Stuart Highway Upgrade from the Motor Vehicle Registry in Alice Springs to the Herbert Heritage Drive intersection.
Timetable
Construction on the various packages of works was completed in late 2019.
