Project description

The project constructed a roundabout on the Midland Highway and the Kings Meadows Connector.

Benefits

The project achieved a 3 Star AusRAP Safety Rating on this section of the Midland Highway. The project improved safety, capacity and overtaking opportunities.

Funding

The cost of the project was $1,313,278. The Australian Government contributed $1,050,622 and the Tasmanian Government $262,656.

Timetable

Construction commenced on 28 November 2014 and was completed on 18 March 2015.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
