Project description

The timber girders which support the 20m long steel deck with an asphalt running surface are in poor condition due to their age, water damage and some infestation from white ants.

Proposed works include the removal of the existing timber girders and steel deck and replace with concrete pre-stressed concrete girders, an asphalt running surface deck and undertake some minor roadway approach works.

Total cost of proposed project is $920,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
