Project description

Improving road standards for tourism. The current width of the road is at 8 meters with a corrugated surface. To improve conditions of the surface, gravel re-sheeting is necessary. The width of the road surface will be increased to 10 meters wide to allow for vehicles passing each other on their way to and from the Billyacatting Reserve.

A three (3) kilometer gravel re-sheeting program to re-surface poor surface condition and widen narrow carriageway.

Total cost of proposed project is $69,521

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
