This project involved expanding and upgrading the existing truck stop, located northbound on the Hume Freeway near Glenrowan, to a truck rest area with increased capacity for heavy vehicles. The upgrade included parking bays for B-doubles, new toilet and picnic facilities, ramp realignment and the installation of signage, lighting and guardrails.
This project will improve safety at this location by increasing capacity, eliminating the need for heavy vehicles to park outside the designated area.
The Australian Government is contributing $1.19 million to this $1.59 million project with the Victorian Government contributing the balance.
Detailed design for the upgrade was completed in September 2014 and a construct only contract was awarded in December 2014. Construction commenced on 12 January 2015 and was completed ahead of schedule on 4 May 2015.
