Project description

Very rough surface, with many patches and a high maintenance cost. Driver amenity is poor because of this.

To undertake heavy patching at many locations over the whole length of this section. This will greatly improve the road surface and driver amenity. It will also prepare the whole length of road for an asphalt overlay that will be much thinner and more economical that would otherwise be possible. This asphalt overlay to follow in subsequent years under separate funding.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
