Project description

This project is the completion of the upgrading of Bergen Road to bitumen seal. The road had poor drainage which was upgraded in Project 10, 2009-2014 R2R, and the first gravel section from 5.1 kilometres to 7.1 kilometres from Wollun Road which was reconstructed and bitumen sealed in Project 12 of 2009-2014 R2R. The remaining section is slippery, dusty and has poor alignment.

Finalise the remaining 2 kilometre link from Wollun towards Walcha by realigning, gravelling and then bitumen sealing on Bergen Road

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
