Project description

This is one of the 18 projects being delivered as part of the Australian Government's $508 million commitment to the Warrego Highway Upgrade Program.

This project involved planning to identify a route for a future bypass or alternative heavy vehicle route at Chinchilla.

The project identified and assessed options to improve safety and capacity at this location.

Funding

The Australian Government contributed $$799,965 to the project.

Timetable

The planning project commenced in April 2016, and was completed in late 2019.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
