Project description

Thin gravel pavement, poor school bus access and safety during rain events.

Rehabilitate and upgrade the existing road pavement. Provide gravel overlay of 150mm thickness with approved selected natural material for the length of road and shape with minimum crossfall of 6%. Undertake roadside drainage improvements (provision of table drains, tail out drains etc.) as required. Length of road to be upgraded 13-18km and 6 metres wide, total seal area 30,000m2.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
