Project description

The road is part of the school bus network within the Shire. The road requires high maintenance especially during wet periods. The road surface experiences severe potholing & rutting during the wet period. Upgrading the road will improve safety to all road users, particularly school buses. The work forms part of Council's strategy to upgrade routes of significant importance such as bus routes and heavy vehicle routes.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
