Project description

The bitumen sealed section of this road has been sealed since year 1990 and is seriously deficient of good aggregate coverage /bitumen condition and /or traffic movements over these years. Shenton Road has been the subject of a five year sealing program and this is year two of the 5year program to be resealed.

Council proposes to prepare and sweep the section ready for the sealing crew to carry out these works which the give it renewed life.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
