Project description

The road is currently unsealed and subject to a large volume of local and tourist traffic, including heavy vehicle movements as it provides access to a number of primary producers. This traffic impacts on the existing unsealed surface which requires periodical patrol grading to ensure surface integrity. The works programme has been increased with the aim of completing the sealing of the whole of Clinton Rd by 30 June 2017.

Upgrading of unsealed road to sealed road standard 6000m x 8m wide with 14/7mm 2 coat bitumen seal.

Total cost of proposed project is $2,248,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
