Project description

There is lack of good rubble on the running surface. Wear rate is high due to traffic volume. The surface is very rough and potholed. Drains are not functioning properly and this is impacting on all weather access to the road.

Recreate base with introduced crushed limestone rubble. Trees will be trimmed and drainage created where required. Road will be sealed using 14/7 millimetre treatment with a C170 binder.

Total cost of proposed project is $683,456

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
