Project description

As with previous stages the road is too narrow for the increasing volumes of traffic. The pavement is poorly aligned and in need of a complete reconstruction. There is a lack of formal stormater drainage and pedestrian access.

Widen & realign the road over a distance of 430 metres at a width of 8.0 metres kerb to kerb. Provide kerb and gutter, stormwater drainage. Provide footpath on both sides. Install guardrail as required. Construct log and sandstone retaining walls to retain excavated areas. Reconstruct property accesses to flatten the grade.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
