Project description

Insufficient road width to accommodate 2 way traffic and parked vehicles adjacent general store, purchasing store and mechanical workshop.

Widening of existing roadway for car parking, works will include boxing out of existing verge, placement of barrier kerb and gravel pavement, then 2 coat bitumen seal. ** Note project comp date is June 2016 and balance in 2014-19 programme.

Total cost of proposed project is $150,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
