Project description

Upgrade to Smithfield Road between Elizabeth Drive and Polding Street to a continuous 2-lane 2-way road. This includes improvements to a number of intersections including the realignment of Richards Road at Smithfield Road.

Benefits include:

  • Reduced travel times for motor vehicles on the road with the improvement of intersection capacity that considers the future traffic growth due to the developments in Sydney’s south-west region
  • Maintained or improved accessibility to Smithfield Rd’s intersecting streets
  • Improved management of traffic conflicts along Smithfield Rd, thus improving road safety and accessibility
  • Improved management of road crossings for vulnerable road users
  • Manage the ability of the infrastructure to manage on-street parking, where necessary

Funding

Australian Government contribution is capped at $16.38 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced in August 2018 and opened to traffic mid 2020.
