Project description

This project involves the upgrade of 5.2km of the Bruce Highway between the Veales Road intersection to Pope Road intersection.  The project is currently in the planning phase that will determine the project's full scope for delivery.

Early interim works on the Bruce Highway between Veales Road and Greenvale street involved the construction of a staggered T intersection, the relocation of the Bowden Road intersection, the construction of a 1.6km service road, additional ambulance signage and Intelligent Transport System works.

These early works addressed some of the most pressing safety issues in the area while the project's full scope is determined.

Benefits

This project will improve safety and freight efficiency, and reduce congestion.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed up to $93.9 million towards the project, in partnership with the the Queensland Government.

Timetable

Major construction commenced in May 2021 and is expected to be completed by mid 2023, weather permitting.

However, early interim safety works commenced construction in July 2016 and were completed in January 2017.
