Project description

The Flinders Link project will extend existing Tonsley passenger rail line to the Flinders Medical Centre, works include:

  • A 650 metre extension of the Tonsley rail line, linking the Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University Precinct to the rail network, including 520 metres of elevated single track over Sturt Road, Laffer's Triangle and Main South Road.
  • Removal of the existing Tonsley Station and construction of a new station station adjacent to the Flinders Medical Centre.
  • An integrated shared pedestrian/cycle path adjacent the rail line.

Benefits

The Flinders Link project will improve public transport, cycling and walking connectivity between the Flinders Precinct and the Tonsley Precinct. 

Flinders Link will also provide improved connectivity between the Adelaide CBD and the Flinders Precinct and Tonsley Precinct as well as connecting the precincts to the broader Adelaide rail network.

Funding

The Australian Government is contributing $69.5 million towards the $139 million project.
