Project description

Currently this road is unsealed and does not provide adequate road formation width to cater increasing traffic demand of through traffic and for the residents served by this road corridor. Current road does not provide safe and efficient route for traffic and causes maintenance issues for Council.

Seal and provide minimum road width to meet standard Rural Collector functionality.

Total cost of proposed project is $650,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
