Project description

The proposed section has the following defects: Old, oxidised and brittle asphalt surface, extensive cracking across the entire surface; rutting and depressions in pavement structure. There are major failures and patches in the road.

The proposed treatment consists of full depth asphalt pavement or in situ stabilisation of existing pavement and new asphalt surfacing including improvements to subsurface drainage.

Total cost of proposed project is $839,293

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
