Project description

The existing concrete road and kerb and channel have deteriorated over the years, large cracks appearing at many locations showing signs of failures The road is within special building overlay and liable to flooding in a 1%AEP event. There is no sufficient drainage to drain the surface stormwater.

The work involves reconstructing the concrete road with reinforcement, installing new kerb and channel and providing adequate drainage.

Total cost of proposed project is $705,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
