Project description

Existing structure is in Condition state 4 (Very Poor) condition. Based on the traffic volumes and overall condition of the structure the bridge is at the end of its servicable life. Replacement is scheduled.

The scope of works includes demolition of the existing timber bridge and replacement with an 8m wide 20m long (2 span) conventional concrete bridge with guardrails. The bridge will be approximately at the same height of the exisiting bridge. The new bridge will require the installation of new piers and end abutments. The 100m road approaches each side of the abutment will be designed to suit the speed enviroment of the road.

Total cost of proposed project is $1,800,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
