Project description

This road is a designated bicycle route and carries significant local vehicle traffic. The road surface is in poor condition due to the age of the road surface and service authority intervention. Bicycle path is uneven and poor condition due to service authority reinstatements. Works are also near a school which will assist road safety.

Re-surfacing of the road pavement, rehabilitation of sections of road base, line marking to delineate designated bicycle route.

Total cost of proposed project is $770,957

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
