Project description

The selected location has seen an increase in tourism traffic as well as local traffic due to a number of subdivision being built in the area. due to this a school bus route has been in place for many years. An increase in construction and quarry operation has seen an increase in Heavy vehicles operating on this road. The current road has a formation width in places of 7m with a seal width of between 6-6.5m this is allowing for a lane width of 3m only less in some areas.

Widen formation to 10m improve vertical alignment. Bring two intersection up to Australian standards with turning lanes and line marking. Improve drainage and upgrade. Place 150mm overlay DGB20. place 8m 10mm primer seal. Line mark 3.5m lanes with .5m sealed shoulders.

Total cost of proposed project is $706,302

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
