Project description

Road pavement is badly deformed and is potholing causing a very rough ride for motorists. The pavement is also narrow causing hazards for two vehicles travelling in opposite directions to pass.

The road pavement for a distance of 1.2 kilometres requires reconstruction to renew its life and also widening from a seal width of 4.8 metres to 6 metres in width with 1 metre gravel shoulders.

Total cost of proposed project is $548,493

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
