Project description

Inadequate drainage and poor quality seal has caused pavement and edge failure over a 2km section. Such failures include severe potholing, edge cracking and surface depressions.

The seal for this 2km section will be removed in sections where the road has degraded. In these areas, the subsurface will be ripped and blended with high quality road base. The road base will then be sufficiently compacted and allowed to sit for two weeks prior to seal to determine any further subsurface deficiencies in these areas. Upon rectification of any further issues, a two-coat 20/10 seal will be laid to replace that which was removed. Table drains will be reformed and stormwater culverts and pipes will be cleared to rectify drainage issues.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
