Project description

The road is narrow with a crest within this section. There is no formal footway & parking is hap-hazard. Residents have reported numerous accident near misses. The road is dangerous in its current condition and alignment.

Reconstruct the road over a length of 590 meters at an average width of 9.0 metres. Construct stormwater drainage, footpath on south side and kerb and gutter on both sides. Numerous driveway level adjustments required. Construct retaining wall as required on south side.

Total cost of proposed project is $901,626

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
