Project description

The project involved design works for widening the Monaro Highway from Canberra Avenue to Hume.

Benefits

The outcomes of this project, following the delivery of works, include savings in vehicle operating costs, travel time reliability improvements, and savings in crash and accident costs.

Funding

The Australian and ACT governments are jointly funding this $2 million project, with the Australian Government contribution capped at $1 million.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
