Project description

The project constructed a new two-lane 10.4-kilometre highway connecting the Peak Downs Highway to the southern end of Bruce Highway - Mackay Ring Road (Stage 1).

Benefits

The project will improve the connection of the Peak Downs Highway to the Bruce Highway and improve road safety for all road users by minimising heavy vehicle traffic through the township of Walkerston.

Funding

The Australian Government has committed $181.8 million and the Queensland Government $69.9 million towards the $251.7 million project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in May 2022 and was completed in September 2025.
