Project description

This road receives traffic from local properties, connecting traffic as well as being a significant school bus route. The current gravel/black soil road surface deteriorates during heavy rainfall and can be unsafe for road users and not trafficable for periods of time.

Pavement overlay, cement stabilisation and bitumen seal two sections of unsealed roadway totalling 3.91km x 7m wide within the designated chainage area. This will increase the amount of bitumen seal on this roadway and allow for reliable use of this road.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
