Project description

The existing bridge structure is scheduled for replacement in 2017. The road approaches to the new bridge will have to be constructed along a new alignment and widened to cater for a new two lane bridge. The current bridge structure is nearing the end of it's useful life and the current road alignment poses various safety concerns due to unsafe site distances, sharp turning radius and limited road width.

Construction of the new road alignment and approaches for the construction of the new bridge. Improve geotechnical ground structure, construct sub-grade formation and road pavement as per design to Main Roads specifications.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
