Project description
The Clermont Alpha Road is a strategic regional road for transporting cattle in northern Queensland, linking the towns of Clermont and Alpha.
The project consists of over 9.5km of sealing works on the Clermont-Alpha Road to improve productivity, resilience and safety. In conjunction with Clermont - Alpha Road packages one and three, a total of approximately 17km of the Clermont-Alpha Road will be upgraded to a two-lane sealed standard.
Benefits
The project will deliver the following improvements to the cattle supply chain:
- improved productivity and travel times, by sealing unsealed sections of road resulting in higher travel speeds and reduced transport costs
- reduced damage and stress to livestock, by reducing road roughness and dust generation (causing livestock dehydration)
- improved road safety by providing 8-metre wide sealed road
- reduced whole-of-life asset management costs by strengthening and widening pavements to reduce accelerated road wear and damage by heavy vehicles
Funding
The Australian Government has committed up to $4 million towards this $5 million project.
Timetable
Construction commenced in September 2018 and was completed in September 2019.
