Project description
The Gregory Developmental Road services a number of cattle grazing and production areas in northern Queensland.
The project will widen approximately 1.6km of road, and replace culverts on the southern and northern approaches of the Gregory Developmental Road.
Benefits
The project will deliver the following improvements to the cattle supply chain:
- improved road safety by widening pavement widths
- reduced damage and stress to livestock by widening the pavement seal to remove the need for cattle trucks to leave the sealed pavement at high speed when approaching on-coming large heavy vehicles
- reduced whole-of-life asset management costs by strengthening and widening pavements to reduce accelerated road wear and damage by heavy vehicles
Funding
The Australian Government has committed up to $4.63 million towards this $5.79 million project.
Timetable
Construction commenced in mid 2021 and is expected to be completed by mid 2023, weather permitting.
