Project description
The Barkly Stock Route is a rural road connecting the Stuart and Tablelands highways. It services a number of cattle producers in the area.
The project upgraded the Barkly Stock Route from its junction with the Stuart Highway to chainage 23.6km, sealing the section of road a two-lane seal and upgrading associated drainage structures to improve the efficiency for all road users, particularly heavy vehicles transporting livestock along the route.
Benefits
The project will support the transportation of livestock in the region by improving road safety and regional productivity, reducing travel times and increasing road reliability during the wet season.
Funding
The Australian Government committed $10.3 million toward this $13.7 million project.
Timetable
Construction commenced in March 2019 and was completed in November 2019.
