Project description

The project upgraded the Great Alpine Road from Wangaratta to Cobungra, including shoulder sealing and intersection improvements at priority locations; pedestrian crossing points in Bright; the installation of safety barriers around high risk curves and drop-offs; improving chain bays and pull-over areas; kerb and channel work; and signage and other messaging to advise road users of road closures.

Benefits

The project has improved safety and efficiency for all road users and supported the economic growth in the Alpine region.

Funding

The total cost of the project was $8 million. The Australian and Victorian governments each contributed $4 million.

Timetable

Construction commenced on 28 November 2018 and was completed on 11 December 2020.
