Project description

The project developed a business case for the duplication of the Midland Highway in Victoria from the Geelong Ring Road (Princes Freeway) to Shelford-Bannockburn Road, Bannockburn. The planning study investigated the transport, land use and economic benefits of possible upgrades as well as any potential social or environmental impacts on local people and drivers.

Benefits

The project developed a business case for the duplication of the Midland Highway from the Geelong Ring Road to Shelford-Bannockburn Road that is expected to improve driver safety and travel times, and reduce operating costs for the freight industry.

Funding

The estimated cost of the project was $600,000. The Australian and Victorian governments each contributed $300,000.

Timetable

The project commenced in May 2017 and was completed in March 2018.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
