Project description

The deck structure of the bridge has failed. This has resulted in excessive deck deflections that are un-safe for the bridge users- vehicles and pedestrians. The deck failure has also resulted in excessively high maintenance costs for the bridge to keep it in serviceable and operational condition.

Undertake full replacement of the deck. In addition other maintenance and works will be done on the bridge including beam cleaning & painting, bridge barrier and handrail maintenance, and some minor roadwork alignment on both bridge approaches.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
