Project description

The existing timber bridge is in extremely poor condition, narrow and with high maintenance requirements from deterioration of timber elements. Extensive repairs have been undertaken however replacement is required for safety reasons

The works proposed are to construct a new concrete bridge as a replacement of the existing timber bridge and upgrade the road approaches to 7.0m wide at the same time as improving the surface conditions

Total cost of proposed project is $1,500,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
