Project description

This road is a high trafficked arterial road within a rural residential area of Council. The road currently carries in excess of 2,000 vehicles per day with a combination of both commuter and heavy vehicle traffic. The current pavement is narrow and rough. The road has poor drainage and little to no safe run off areas. The works aim to address these shortcomings.

The works propose to rehabilitate and widen the existing pavement. Batters will be widened and table drainage improved. An 11 metre wide pavement will be provided incorporating a 9 metre seal. Existing drainage structures will be widened, new guardrail provided complete with new guideposts, signage and linemarking. The works aim to build on other recent and nearby Roads to Recovery Projects and, once complete, will see an upgrade pavement for the Captains Flat Road between the Kings Highway and the Briars Sharrow Road. The overall length of the project is about 2.5 kilometres.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
