Project description

The completed project included widening of the Midland Highway and the provision of alternating lengths of “2+1” lane arrangements, from approximately 2km south of York Plains Road junction to the St Peters Pass Rest Area (total distance of approximately 5.2km).

Benefits

The safety upgrades will improve safety benefits, enhance transport efficiency to all road users and help to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities caused by head-on collisions through the provision of flexible central median barriers.

Funding

The Australian Government contributed $14.6 million and the Tasmanian Government $3.7 million to this project.

Timetable

Construction commenced in February 2018 and was completed in May 2019.
