Project description

Several isolated failures of the pavement along a 4.6km section of the road with breaking of the sealed surface caused by water ingress and heavy vehicle use.

Heavy patching of 900 square metres in several sections. Existing base material will be stabilised with 3% by weight of 70:30 cement/flyash. The failed sections will be reshaped and recompacted then a two coat bitumen seal will be applied over the patch to seal the pavement from water ingress.

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
