Project description

This road has experienced increased traffic since sections west and east of this location were sealed and upgraded. This section is considered dangerous due to poor horizontal & vertical alignment, adverse camber on bends and inadequate drainage

Realign & widen the roadway over a distance of 690 metres 9 metres wide. The road will be straightened to eliminate a dangerous bend. This will involve substantial earthworks, installing stormwater drainage, kerb and gutter and guardrail. Safety signage & additional line marking will be installed.

Total cost of proposed project is $3,756,000

The Gardens Road (Alice Springs Rural Road) - 059887-15NT-RTR

The Gardens Road services the pastoral, tourism, mining and indigenous community industries. The nearby Alice Springs to Darwin road rail crossing is currently being upgraded to 2 lane 7m wide seal, finishing at the existing narrow non-standard, single lane grid. The upgrade of the grid and drainage is a safety issue.It is proposed to raise the grid to allow drainage to occur, widen the grid to standard 9.6 metre width, raise the road approaches and build fence on both sides of the grid for traffic safety.
